چکیده

Background Effective airway management is a priority in early trauma management. Data on physician pre-hospital intubation is limited, despite its worldwide practice [1]. This study was conducted to establish intubation success rates in a physician-led system and examine the frequency and management of failed intubation in pre-hospital trauma patients. Failed intubation rates of anaesthetists and nonanaesthetists were also reviewed.

Observational study of the success rates of intubation and failed intubation airway rescue techniques in 7256 attempted intubations of trauma patients by pre-hospital physicians.

BACKGROUND Effective airway management is a priority in early trauma management. Data on physician pre-hospital tracheal intubation are limited; this study was performed to establish the success rate for tracheal intubation in a physician-led system and examine the management of failed intubation and emergency surgical cricothyroidotomy in pre-hospital trauma patients. Failed intubation rates f...

Pre-hospital advanced airway management by experienced anaesthesiologists: a prospective descriptive study

INTRODUCTION We report data from the first Utstein-style study of physician-provided pre-hospital advanced airway management. MATERIALS AND METHODS Anaesthesiologists from eight pre-hospital critical care teams in the Central Denmark Region (a mixed rural and urban region with 1.27 million inhabitants) prospectively registered data according to the template for reporting data from pre-hospita...

Prehospital Intubations and Mortality: A Level 1 Trauma Center Perspective

Albert J. Varon, MD* BACKGROUND: Ryder Trauma Center is a Level 1 trauma center with approximately 3800 emergency admissions per year. In this study, we sought to determine the incidence of failed prehospital intubations (PHI), its correlation with hospital mortality, and possible risk factors associated with PHI. METHODS: A prospective observational study was conducted evaluating trauma patien...

4,871 Emergency Airway Encounters by Air Medical Providers: A Report of the Air Transport Emergency Airway Management (NEAR VI: “A-TEAM”) Project

INTRODUCTION Pre-hospital airway management is a key component of resuscitation although the benefit of pre-hospital intubation has been widely debated. We report a large series of pre-hospital emergency airway encounters performed by air-transport providers in a large, multi-state system. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed electronic intubation flight records from an 89 rotorcraft air medic...
